PINATA TIME!!! | The Really White Vigilante in pinata form | September, 2008 - While running through the list of things I needed to get done for the comic book release party, an idea hit me while I was at the convenience store across the street from Blue Genie Art.
I walked into the pinata shop and I told the man behind the counter he had made a unicorn pinata for me a couple years ago. Sergio immediately corrected me, and said that was about five years ago. We laughed, and I asked if he could make a simple, black and white Mexican wrestler pinata for me. He said they were just about to make some, and he walked me through the shop to see the different sizes available.
Although the six foot tall pinata was very tempting, I had to 'settle' for the grandeur of the three foot tall pinata. When I started to draw a picture of what the mask and logo should look like, I realized Sergio had the internet in front of him and I asked if I could go to the Really White Vigilante's website.

| When I pulled up the site and showed Sergio, he said he could do it, but suddenly, a cloud gathered above his head and he almost physically took a step away from the computer screen. In broken English, he said he wasn't sure he could do this, and mumbled 'copyright' under his breath.
As I looked around the shop at the hanging Spongebob, Texas Longhorn, Dallas Cowboy, Toy Story, Darth Vader and other famous pinatas, I reassured him that the character was my own creation and I was giving him explicit permission to make the pinata.
Enthusiastically, Sergio got to making it. I checked in about ten days later, and it turned out to be the best $22 I've spent in a long time. As he showed me the pinata, he pointed out the blond hair showing through the mask. His wife wanted to keep covering the yellow paper with white paper to make the mask opaque. He told her to keep some yellow showing, because, "the point is that there is a white boy under the mask!" |
