| | January, 2006 - Over 180 articles in 3 years, nearly three hundred pages of text and pictures, and it all started on that infamous MLK Day in 2003 when I stumbled onto something larger than myself.
In the past few years, I've eaten boxes of cereal, made macaroni and cheese and kielbasa sandwiches, run into Alex Jones, traveled across the country, lampooned Austin's smoking ban, eaten my share of hot dogs, drawn some pictures, painted some paintings, and shown my art throughout Austin. Through it all, this little website was there. |
 The day it all started...

It's caused arguments with my girlfriend, and she still wonders why I feel compelled to pull an all nighter to update my website. I have become more serious about this little corner of the cyber world, redesigning it a few times, but mostly in tone: I'm tired of artists getting walked over all the time by galleries, curators, critics, charities, and the mindlessly rude general public. Art
is not a charity, it's not a free hippie ideal, and I hope that this website exposes the challenges and benefits of the arts and being an artist. It's a thankless job, one filled with no benefits, and an almost sick compulsion by those who paint, sculpt and draw to sacrifice their lives for their visions. |
 SCHLIEFKEVISION continues to grow

| Part of the maturation of this website will be unveiled this week, as I've taken on the task of interviewing two artists a month for myself and my readers. This is to help fill the void of reporting and interest in the arts the two sources of printed news
in Austin can't fulfill. After a drawn out email tiff with the editor of the Statesman arts section, I took my anger towards his apathy and self congratulatory manner and hatched the idea of doing something positive for the arts and their audiences in Austin that the newspaper has stoutly refused to believe it isn't doing. |

I've learned a lot about websites since I've started this one, although I still rate just above a beginner in technical skill. I've found things I like and don't like. As I've grown up as an artists, have put together bigger and better planned shows, this website has been vital to all that. Friends always joke about how much time I put into this endeavor, and its done mostly in the painless hours between 1am and 4am, but it never really seems like much of a chore.
So stay tuned because I never know when I will trip over the next big thing But when I do, you will read about it here, alongside me eating a hot dog or throwing paint at a canvas. So keep coming back.
