My parents outside the Texas Capitol.

MOM AND DAD COME TO AUSTIN

My parents made their way out to Austin to catch my show and see the sights.  So, in-between putting the finishing touches on my show, I played tour guide in my own town and showed them a bunch of what Austin has to offer. Here's how the visit went down:

The arrival, Texas stadiums, and Texas Capitol
Mt. Bonnell, food and art
San Antonio, the Alamo, and Italian food

Mount Bonnell

So as temperatures rose and the sun dried everything off on Friday, we made a trek to the highest point in Austin - all 775 feet of it.  After taking in the view and sweating quite a bit, we headed back down the little mountain with a better appreciation of how the other half lives in Austin.

Top Notch & Casino El Camino

I couldn't let my dad slip out of town without tasting some of my naughtier pleasures.  We stopped off for a gigantic fried lunch at Top Notch, and one night ended up at my old stomping grounds Casino El Camino, and ordered up some tasty food and soaked up the ambience.  My Dad's appreciation for Lone Star continued, and his next visit I'll test his eating mettle by ordering up a couple Double Dog Texas Tommys.

Hot Doggin': The Big Show

The night of my show arrived, and after my parents got over the shock of driving through the Party Barn to pick up the keg, the show was on.  The freeloaders were the first to arrive, and a battle of wills took place as I made the freeloaders who come to art shows to drink beer look at the art for 40 minutes before tapping the keg.

Of course the most bizarre and unexpected event of the night was when Jean from Lucky Dog stopped by and presented me with a hot dog costume from her old shop.

I did some obligatory flag waving, the folks at the show were left laughing and shaking their heads.
