NEW WHEELS! | | February 9, 2007 - For just under two and a half years, I've been a slave to good weather and buses. Without my truck, I've had three bikes, countless flats, two solo biking accidents that luckily didn't result in
broken bones. I've never liked to drive, and the time I've spent without a car has made me appreciate life and distance a whole lot more. As tiresome as it was being locked in during rainy weather, or having to warp my life and needs to a rather arbitrary and inadequate bus schedule, I always enjoyed my independence from cars and thought I'd never go back. |
| Sometimes, coincidence and fate intertwine and decisions are just made for you.
One of my friends dropped off a print to have stretched. I figured it would take a day, and I set her on her merry way. A couple minutes later, she was asking me to jump her car. I told her I couldn't, but there were plenty of folks around who would be able to. As we opened the hood and set up the jumper cables, Karina explained to me he was frustrated because they were getting rid of the car and decided this was the last tank of gas to go in it. A friend of mine offered to buy the car off her, but then
suggested I buy it instead.
After checking a few dealers for a trade in, I got a phone call that the 92 Accord was mine for the bargain basement price of $400. Within days, the title and keys were in my hands, and after charging the dead battery at an auto shop for free, have a fully functioning, safe and seemingly reliable vehicle once again. |
