DRAWING CLASSES | |
Drawing is at the heart of almost every art form. The ability to draw is linked with careful observation and the ability to see. In these drawing classes, I provide a rigorous launching pad for the student to develop and hone their drawing skills through a series of projects starting with drawing from observation. Initially, form, perspective, and proportion will all be stressed, and then we'll move through composition, shading and line-work.
The drawing classes are meant to teach a student a variety of techniques to draw what they see in order to tackle the basics of drawing so they may achieve their own goals with their abilities. I will offer different techniques each week and build on them, incorporating new levels of thinking and observation as the classes continue.
I believe that developing a careful sense of observation, combined with continued practice and developing their skill, a student can draw better and with more confidence, which ensures that they will continue to draw with better and better results over time. |
CLASS INFORMATION Classes are filled on a first come, first served basis. Each class session is one and a half hour long, and meets once a week for eight weeks. The full eight weeks of classes costs $200. 50% of the cost of classes is due on the first class. I accept cash, checks and credit cards through Paypal.
I am understanding of your schedule and allow for a limited number of classes to be postponed to the next week in the event something comes up and you can't make a scheduled class time. I just ask that you not abuse this privilege and always notify me as early as possible of any planned absence.
During the class sessions, an easel and things to draw will be provided. After a few weeks, a student can choose to bring in some objects to draw that would fit with the lessons at hand. I encourage, but do not require, students to use vine charcoal as a drawing medium. Pencils and other mediums are acceptable as well. I have a basic list of materials that would get a student going easily and without spending a lot of money.
You can sign up for classes by emailing Michael at info@schliefkevision.com, or by calling him at 431-0612.

ABOUT MICHAEL SCHLIEFKE
I have lived in Austin as a self employed painter since 2002. I graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1997 with a Bachelor's Degree in Painting. I have spent the past ten years painting, showing work and the making ends meet through a variety of art projects, including murals, animation and some commissions. I have taught painting and drawing classes for four years, using lessons learned from professors, art history, and the harshest teacher of all, my own personal experience. I encourage you to take
a look at my portfolio and my studio updates to see my work and processes over the past few years. |
