OCTOBER 2005:
ENTERING THE HOME STRETCH
October 23, 2005 - With seemingly endless hours spent handling the
unicorn art show, "Will There Ever be a Rainbow?", I've been trying
to keep busy and keep my eyes of the prize as the year begins to
derail into 2006. Besides the gigantic unicorn show, the
annual EAST open studio tour is coming up fast on its heels along
with the fifth annual Blue Genie Christmas Bazaar.
I've been trying to focus my energies on adding to the eight
prints I already have produced based off my paintings, with a goal
of twenty-thirty to hit by the end of the year. I've started
out on about eight new cuts, putting me in good shape for the EAST
tour and keeping me on a close pace for the Christmas show.
I've also made a quick lino cut based off a stained glass window
at the Precious Moments Chapel,
which in turn inspired my unicorn painting to play off the Reubens
painting in Kansas City's museum. When I told Chris Chappell
about my idea, he thought it was a good fit for me, and I agreed and
said, "Yeah, every painter has painted the Sacrifice of
Isaac". He looked at me and kinda corrected me by telling me
Titian has been dead for about 400 years and there's been some
painters recently who haven't painted it, or anything close at all.
but I've also started to fool around on some old canvases, and as
I'd like to put together some new work for the Christmas show,
mostly small canvases, I'm already laying the groundwork for my next
solo show, tentatively scheduled for April, 2006.
I'm pushing paint around some, finding some imagery and themes in
my messy studio, and trying to get things in place for the new year.
2005 has slipped away faster than ever, and its time to start
thinking ahead.

With the big painting show behind me,
I can concentrate on making a plethora of prints.
